News - Oxfordshire EA building wins UK sustainability award
Jan 07: One of TV Energy's sponsors, the Environment Agency, has scooped a national award for its low-energy building, Red Kite House in Wallingford, South Oxfordshire. The project, which features both solar photovoltaics (PV) and solar thermal panels, won in the Commercial category of the National Energy Efficiency Awards run by UK CEED. More information on the award can be found at http://energyawards.org.uk/. The solar PV cells generate 23,000 kWh of power per year, while the solar hot water panels on the roof supplement its water heating. The building also exploits natural ventilation rather than air conditioning and its rainwater collection system harvests enough water to satisfy 40 per cent of the building's need – with any excess directed to a nearby pond. Red Kite House had already been runner-up in the Sustainability section of the RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) South East Awards 2006. TV Energy assisted with the selection of renewables installers as well as with obtaining a government Clear Skies grant for the scheme. TV Energy's Renewable Energy Conference 2005
