Wood Burners at the Living Rainforest

PDF (79KB)

Existing/Proposed Project:

Proposed For 2003.
Location: The Living Rainforest.
Project Leader: TV Energy.
Description: It is proposed to replace one of the Living Rainforest's oil-fired boilers with a small-scale wood burning boiler. This, as a part of a complete complex rebuild on an energy efficient green energy supply basis.
Background:

The Living Rainforest's mission is to explore the relationship between humanity and the world's rainforests through education and research. The Living Rainforest provides a hands-on experience to many thousands of visitors. Throughout its work, emphasis is placed on being engaging, down to earth and innovative.

Wood Fuel

TV Energy is working with the Living Rainforest to investigate whether wood fuel might be used in boilers to produce hot water for space heating. The wood could come from local woodland waste and forestry residues or preferably be wood grown from managed coppice plantations.

The Technology

The technology suitable for the Living Rainforest needs to supply 300kW of heat and must be almost fully automated in order to minimise the maintenance of the boiler. This system might be fuel fed by means of a screw feed from a storage hopper and will be cleaned of ash on a weekly basis.
