News - Small
Scale Wood Gasification Coming of Age?
TV Energy visited Biomass Engineering,
Warrington on 24th May 2005 to view ongoing work with small-scale
gasifiers. The trip was organised through Arup and forms a part of the
continuing work towards sourcing an ESCo partner to design, build and
operate the energy centre and supply energy services to the Bracknell
town centre redevelopment.
TV Energy was invited to join the visit
with the aim of confirming whether the company has developed
gasification technology sufficient to fill the gap in biomass to
electricity generation plant in the 100s kWe range. Confidence in the
product would enable TV Energy to investigate the application of
woodfuel gasification to the Bracknell project as well as a number of
other potential end users in the SE of England region.
The visit comprised a presentation by
Biomass Engineering of the company and its product followed by a tour of
the grid connected gasifier and gas engine system at the Farm Project
nearby.

BIOCOGEN Meeting in Budapest, Hungary 14th October 2003 The BIOCOGEN project group met in Budapest on the 14th October 2003 to review progress with an assessment of European biomass cogeneration projects on behalf of the European Commission. The countries involved include: Austria, Bulgaria, Denmark, Finland, France, Greece, Slovenia, Sweden, Turkey and the UK (represented by TV Energy). The meeting was organised by coordinators CRES of Greece. The agenda for the meeting included presentations from CRES covering the areas of market analysis for cogeneration and the developed strategy for market penetration of biomass cogeneration. The Joanneum Research Institute presented their research on solid fuel biomass CHP plants across Europe and the analysis on the collected data. Finally, TV Energy presented the collected Flagship projects from each of the partner countries and the conclusions drawn from these projects.

The next stage of the project is to draw together all the Work Packages into the final report for the European Commission and for the partnership to investigate areas for future work. The final report for BIOCOGEN is due for submission in January 2004. Visit
